In our current era, the micro trend is rampant, and amongst the swarms of new internet-fuelled trends that are flying around the zeitgeist at any given moment, keeping up is near impossible. There are baby tees and mini bags and sporty sunglasses and cargo pants and low rise jeans and Adidas Sambas and – need I go on? One trend though, that has begun to emerge in the past few months, is knee high socks.

First noticed at Miu Miu's Fall Winter 22 show, where, carrying on with their low-slung, high cut theme of mini skirts, hot pants, and tennis-adjacent polo shirts, they introduced a new iteration of their famous ballerina slippers this time paired with a scrunchy, knee-high knitted sock. It was the perfect addition to the looks, and keeping in theme with the current "balletcore" trend that has been flooding feeds. After all, Miuccia Prada practically has a patent on ballet-adjacent silhouettes by now. Socks that cut off just below the knee were also offered up at Dior's show for the same season in both sporty and embellished iterations. There were multi-coloured compression-style socks worn with hyper feminine skirts and perforated leather corsets, and sheer black knee-highs embellished with crystals and sequins as additions to evening looks. At the brands Pre Fall 2022 show in Seoul, black socks stopped mid-way up the calf and laced around the leg up to the knee.

Following this celebration of awkward-height-hoisery, knee high socks have been showing up all over our feeds. It started, as most viral trends do, with Bella Hadid. Her favourite way to wear them seems to be with gym shorts or a mini skirt, and the rest of the internet has lapped it up. Below, are our favourite examples of how to wear knee high socks and make them look like a design choice instead of looking like you're off to play a spot of hockey. Perhaps that's where the charm lies anyway?

This month is all about getting ready to gradually shed the layers and feel the sun on our skin once again.

One of the best times of year occurs in the middle of August, when the Danes and the Scandinavians – some of the chicest people in the world – get together for Copenhagen Fashion Week.
