POLICE have yet to speak to a man filmed buying used underwear from a boy in a disturbing video shared online, sparking concern from parents.

West Mercia has confirmed there are 'no updates' after the man was recorded buying the boxer shorts from the boy in Worcester city centre earlier this month.

The video has now been widely shared on social media.

Footage has been described by police as "deeply concerning." Last week they said they wanted to speak to the man in the video urgently - despite his actions not qualifying as a criminal offence.

The incident happened in St Martin's Quarter on September 2. Footage showed a bald man appearing to pay cash for a teenage boy's boxer shorts and socks outside Sports Direct.

CONCERN: Jon DP Shaw helped bring the video to public attention. Photo: Jon Shaw

Boxing coach and Malvern father-of-one Jon DP Shaw, who shared the video on his Facebook page, is responsible for coaching young people and expressed concern that the man had still not been spoken to by police.

He believes his original Facebook post about the man's actions, so far shared 234 times, prompted a statement from police about the man's behaviour.

Mr Shaw said: "People in the community are outraged and now the police have to take note!

"This is wrong on so many levels and it’s clear this person's behaviour will escalate if it already hasn’t! Those two weeks of not identifying and speaking to him could have serious consequences for another child’s life."

Mr Shaw said as a father himself he and many other parents wanted the police to take action.

He added: "This is our city. We need to stand together and make it safe."

Despite concerns raised by members of the public and from West Mercia Police officers, the force does not believe a criminal offence has been committed at this stage.

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said last week: "On Saturday, September 3 we received a report that a man had approached a 15-year-old boy in Silver Street, Worcester and offered to pay cash for his boxer shorts and socks as part of a social experiment.

"The boy agreed and sold the items to the man, who is described as being bald and about 5ft 9ins tall.

"The incident happened the previous day, Friday, September 2, at about 3.30pm.

"Whilst no criminal offence has been reported officers investigating this incident are keen to identify the man and hear from anyone else who is aware of similar approaches being made to other people."

Inspector Fergus Green, Worcester Safer Neighbourhoods inspector, said: "The actions reported to us do not constitute a criminal offence but are deeply concerning and could lead to, or be an indicator of, criminal activity.

“We are, therefore, keen to trace the man involved and establish what his intentions were.

Anyone with information is asked to contact West Mercia Police through our online reporting system quoting incident 238 of 3 September.”
